Upcycled Pallet Hanging Planter Box...

OH MY - I LOVE PALLETS!
Quite simply my mind went into overdrive when I acquired this lot - all for free!
(Mitre 10 is a great place to visit for free pallets).
In my imagination I created a few signs,a side table, a book shelf....
but first let's DIY an upcycled pallet hanging planter box.
I saw this idea in a cafe courtyard setting last year, and thought I must have one!
So this is how it was made:
Firstly dismantle the pallet using a long crow bar to lever off the wood.
Take all the boards off except the last two.
The pallet should look like this now...
 Cut the long pieces off...
Check it's square with a measure, and push into shape if not. George agrees it is square.
Nail another board on so your two becomes three...
 Like this...
This is the back of the planter.
Attach another piece of wood which is the bottom of the planter...
(Sorry - photo topsy turvey!)
Lay on back and place wood across front...
Then a second piece flush against the first...
It should now look like this.
Use a metal rasp type file to smooth the edges.
Paint the planter in a colour of your choice.
Or leave natural wood if preferred.
 I painted mine 'Grey Friars'...
Just because I'm loving grey right now!
Once dry, gather supplies of rope, wire, plants, potting mix.
Then add a rope hanger.
On each end nail two staple nails.
Leave them sticking up enough so you can thread the rope through.
Like this....
Then use some thin wire to bind the ends together.
Hang where you want it.
I hung mine over the pool fence upright.
(Oops - I might need to straighten that top cap!)
I recycled some old pots and got planting!
If you are wondering why I chose blue pots, the reason is that I have large blue pots in the area where this pallet hanger is going to be sited.
And this is the end result!
I can't wait for the plants to grow and cascade over the edge more.
Even still....I think it's pretty cute just like this!
This side is planted with a white iceplant, a green grass (seedling from the garden), and a red iceplant.
And this side has a Red Sweet William (root taken from the garden), a red toned grass (you guessed it - another self sown seedling from the garden), and a white iceplant.
The iceplants were the only plants I bought and I think they're a new favourite.
Especially because they require less water than most plants,
and may well survive the hot summer at Mia Bella Gardens!

Parade Roses....

All of a sudden I am addicted to these fabulously gorgeous
 mini roses called 'Parade Roses'.
I bought a sweet pink one...then a pastel yellow one...then a red one...
At last...a rose that has been specifically bred for indoor blooming.
All you ever wanted to know about how to care for these darlings is here:

All this rose beauty called for a photo shoot...
So out came the candelabra...
In glittering gold...
with crystals...
And cut glass...
 Ahhh....
Simply beautiful....
Parade roses...
Another 'new' passion!

Choc Chip Eskimo Kisses...

Ok folks here is another super sweet goody for ya all to indulge yourself with...
Vanilla icecream, sandwiched between rich chocolate chip biscuits.
When I was a child you could buy an icecream called an 'Eskimo Pie',
so these are my take on those delicious icecreams,
and that is why I have called them Eskimo Kisses.
So Moorish!
Pop over here for the printable recipe:
Oozing with ice cream...the kids will love eating these for sure.
My vintage love affair continues too...
with this old Rosa print.
I bought this to upcycle the frame,
then fell in love with the frame and print, age spots and all!
I do hope you enjoy the Choc Chip Eskimo Kisses....
which I am sure you will!

XOXOXO

Mia Bella House Tour - The French Masculine Bedroom...

The French Masculine Bedroom consists of neutral earthy tones...
with a pop of black.
The drapes are pulled back with brass and rope curtain tiebacks.
Find out how to DIY make them HERE.
For the DIY photographic tutorial on how to make them, click here:
Wall art is an original vintage etching and a Paris graphic that have been framed in black.
The furniture has been left natural wood to compliment the wooden skirting and door frames.
The large basket is to collect the clothing that would normally be left on the floor.
(And it works a treat - training does not take long to complete!)
The dado rail in the ensuite is also oiled wood,
and guess what?
The love of shells continues here as it does in the 'Blue Bathroom'!
There is a bit of a original beachy artwork on the wall too.
The duvet was found at Briscoes...
I love the pin-tuck effect.
The crown cushion in natural linen and black is from Wallace Cotton.
The quilt is also from Wallace Cotton.
The leaf print is very masculine.
Here's the link to their online store: Wallace Cotton Online
The bedside table displays the flying pig,
a black metal crown, filigree metalwork ball,
 and...
a huge crystal rock.
Note how Mr Pig is sitting on a few vintage books.
This is referred to as displaying using a riser.

The other bedside table has a basket to hold all the 'bloke' bits...
A stylish basket is the perfect solution to bloke mess!
I'm loving the open weave and the cool metal handle.
Above each bedside table are some framed images...
You'll find these FREE photographs here:
On the antique tallboy sits a moth orchid in a bowl.
The knick knacks are items collected on holidays to Bali and Fiji and continue the natural wood, stone and black theme.
Moth orchids are a favourite of mine.
Especially the white ones!
The centre of the flowers look like angelic doves....
So beautiful!

Arabella enjoys the afternoon sun in the French masculine bedroom.
It's a room with subtle colouring,
but I think the black accents and natural wood gives it wow factor!
