Romantic Repurposed Poetry...

Repurposed Poetry is usually done with the words blocked out with ink pen scribbles...
But today I'll show you a different technique using watercolour paint.

Valentine Paper Craft
Why not add your sweet repurposed poem to your Valentine's Gift...
Or use your creation as decor decoration.
Here's how to create one:

This poem is one of many free ones found on the internet.
Have a search and find a love poem that you like.
Print it on A4-size paper.

Read through the poem and black out with watercolour paint the words you don't want anymore.
I used black paint, but you can use any colour you like.

 Then add a flower.
And some hearts around the entire poem...
If you need more confidence to paint, just find flowers and hearts to print off the internet to collage with glue onto the paper.
Even with the adaption, it is still a beautiful poem.

It now reads:

The Passion Flower

The hour Love lies down
with folded wings;
His fatal arrows flings.
Not a word is heard,
only from the bridal bird
in darkness sings.
Sweet music,
soft and clear -
'Love is here!'
The moon,
bright spells and hope
gone to dream of pleasures - asleep.
Now smile;
forgetting grief,
to stars or pale moonlight.
'What beauty can the day bestow?'
Turn and tell me - for the day.
And now comes back,
Love -
sighing like the winds 'mongst evening flowers.

Roll and tie with a ribbon to gift,
or frame and use it in your Valentine's decor.

Valentines Collage Canvas...

This collage art piece is Valentine inspired...
You could create your own picture in whatever colours you like...
I chose yellow.

You will need:
A canvas - 30cm x 30cm with a 3cm edge.
Acrylic art paint in the colour you choose and in white.
A selection of images to collage.
(I used images from the free resources at Graphics Fairy.)
Scissors
Modpodge
Paintbrush.

Step One:  Paint the canvas as desired with the colour paint and with white to create contrast.

Paint the outside edges of the canvas white.

Step Two: Let the paint dry.
Cut out or tear around the edges of your images.

Step Three:  Glue the images in a collage fashion on to the painted canvas using modpodge.

Step four:  Paint a sealer of modpodge glue over the entire collage.
Once it is dry all the images will flatten out on to the canvas.
Staple a string hanger onto back of the picture to hang,
or just stand the canvas on a book shelf or side table.

Gorgeous 'Ocean Beauty' Sheer Wrap...

Today I'm sharing this gorgeous wrap that I have designed.
It's modeled by my equally gorgeous daughter April.

This sheer wrap is perfect for all seasons.

Worn with a white cami singlet top in the warm seasons.
And with longer sleeves with extra under layers in the cooler seasons.

This design is taken from my original abstract oil painting called 'Ocean Beauty'.

The wrap fabric is soft and slightly sheer.
And it flows beautifully.

Ocean Beauty Wraps are made to order,
and are available via my Vida designer shop HERE.

The fact my daughter loves to wear my designs makes me one very proud happy artistic designer.

Arty Nail Polish Rocks...

Arty Nail Polish Rocks are super easy to create...

All you need are a selection of old nail polishes in the colours of your choice...
and somewhere well ventilated to do this project.
(As boy oh boy - polish is pretty fumy stuff!)

You'll also need:
A bowl of cold water and a toothpick.
Plus some oval shaped rocks.

 To Create:
Drip the nailpolish in a pattern on top of the water...
Then quickly run the toothpick through the polish.

Hold the rock over the polish and push down so water covers rock,
and then pull out of water.
Turn and place rock right side up on paper to dry.

 This is the end result.

Once dry they can be gifted...
or placed on a windowsill, coffee table, on the patio, in plant pots or in the garden in groups.
Don't you think these are pretty.
This colour combination reminds me of a paua (abalone) shell.

Living With Pain And Invisible Illness - My story...

This week's post was supposed to be all about a very cool Coastal-themed 'Nightlight' DIY...
BUT...
the computer decided to DIE!!!
So here I am on my little ole laptop.
With no access to photo processing and no way to get the photos from the camera onto the laptop of the above project.
The DIY post has now turned into 'hopefully' an inspiring story.
Few know this part of my personal story.
It is silent.  It is hidden.
I live with chronic pain and illness that is not obvious.
(unless of course you notice the disability parking sticker on my car or I am limping due to a flare-up).
It affects my life daily.
It is a challenge.
Last week I read a blog post elsewhere that featured a story about other bloggers who also live with pain and illness.
Their stories were inspirational.
So I decided I would add my story to the blogosphere.
Perhaps it will help someone who is in the early days of diagnosis.
Perhaps it will give them hope when they are going through all the stages of grief as they deal with the prospects of surgery, medication and their effects, as well as lifestyle changes.
I think for me the lifestyle changes that I had to make were the hardest.
Before my hip deformity diagnosis, reconstructive surgeries, osteoarthritis diagnosis, and heart condition (also which required surgery), I was super active.
I had a half-acre garden.  Ran the home to perfection. Worked. Volunteered.
Gosh, I could write an enormous list of how life was.
Then suddenly it all stopped!
Life changed in a moment.
It's taken me many years to adapt to those changes.
It was not easy.
I loved my old life.
Then suddenly I needed to recreate a new one.
I was completely lost.
My friend said to me 'You are still creative - share it'.
In 2012 Mia Bella Passions' blog began.
'Mia Bella Passions' is my creative, positive, happy place.
Blogging was my lifesaver.
Then as time and wellness allowed, I added other things 'I could do'...
Art became my second lifesaver.
And here we are today.
A Blogger and an artist.
Somebody who six years ago thought life was over!
Now - I accept that my path is different.
I have good days.
I have really bad days.
I have learnt to pace myself.
I know when to stop.
I look for beauty in all things, and in places I would never have thought to look before.
Positivity is an important aspect of my life and the way I think.
It takes a while to retrain the brain to think that way but you can do it.
(Sure - I have challenging days when I am miserable, but the next day I pick myself up and carry on).
I go for short walks.
The beach is a haven.
I have my family's love.
Life is good.
I am grateful.
Mindfulness rocks!

And last but not least:
Creativity is incredibly healing.

This leaves me with a quote I'd like to share with you today:

'Do not confuse my bad days as a sign of weakness.
These are actually the days I am fighting my hardest'.

Raindrops on Roses...

In New Zealand autumn has come to a close... and the first days of winter are upon us.
But temperatures are still mild enough for the roses to celebrate a last bloom time.
I love it when it rains at this time of year.
The light for photography is sublime.
The raindrops on flowers emit a stunning beauty
that simply takes your breath away.

It reminds me of this quote by 'Rumi'.

"Come out here
where the roses have opened...
Let the soul and world meet".

So I popped it on this shot of this sweet pink rose bloom
as a 'free screensaver' for you.
Enjoy!
