The Pale Pastels To Colour Brights Makeover

Artfully transform a plain wall with stunning artwork.
And yes we did just that with a stunning photographic image!

It was time to change it up!
From 'pale pastels to colour brights please'.
And that is exactly what was achieved with this makeover.
(scroll to the bottom for before and after pictures).

The centrepiece and focal statement in this bedroom,
is the stunning Siamese Fighting Fish canvas print from Photowall.

Photowall is a ethical Swedish company.
I love the fact they don't do Warehouse storage, produce superb quality products, and they give back to the environment by planting trees.
If you haven't already, do stop by for a look.
It's where you will find wall art by passionate people.
Stunning wallpapers, prints, canvases, and posters.
You can use your own image,
or choose one from Photowall's extensive and inspiring art or photographic selection.
So back to the bedroom makeover:
What was so fabulous about this Siamese Fighting Fish canvas is;
we could choose the size of the print.
Photowall actually makes to your exact measurements!
This canvas is 100cm by 100cm in size.

It arrived as a DIY kitset.

But don't worry - it's reasonably easy to assemble.

And if you find paper instructions tricky to follow there is a Youtube tutorial with visual step by steps to assist.

The bedding selected coordinates with the colourful hues in the canvas artwork.
Mustard yellow, orange, and peachy pink with just a little hint of blues.

And what an amazing transformation.

DIY Tray Makeover...

Take an old tray
(found at the Thrift Store)
and give it a facelift!
 DIY Home Decor
I love upcycling old things and giving them a new lease of life.
This is what happened to this very aqua-blue tray.
From this....

DIY Home Decor
To this!

DIY Home Decor
I actually love the blue,
but it just did not compliment my home decor.

upcycling
So it was out with the blue,

Upcycling
and in with the grey.

Resene DIY
Manorburn Double by Resene was the colour used.

Kalanchoe
I love candles.
So the tray contained all my candle pots in one place.
I added a potted yellow flowering succulent plant to the vignette.

Kalanchoe
This is a 'Kalanchoe'.
A great repeat-flowering indoor plant.
Easy care.
Just give it bright natural light (No direct sun) and do not overwater.
Remember it is a succulent and they hate wet soggy feet.

DIY Home Decor
But something was missing...
a coffee table runner.

So I looked in my fabric stash to see what I had that would be complimentary.
This natural light linen-look fabric was perfect.
With a contrasting herringbone pattern,
it adds interest to the table vignette.

Sew a table runner
All I did was measured the table and hemmed all four sides to fit.
I'm loving the fabric table runner
and the tray vignette.

DIY Home Decor
And easy low-cost upgrade to freshen my sitting room.

Hyacinth In A Teapot!

It's now the depths of winter here in the Bay Of Plenty in New Zealand.
Today has been the coldest day so far...
a mere 4 degrees at 10am this morning.
I am not a fan of the cold.
I am so grateful the beautiful Bay offers a Spring, Summer and Autumn with warm, hot, warm temperatures.
It really is a grin and bear it scenario in winter.
When the weather is just awful and you are stuck indoors, what do you do?
Well, you fast forward Spring, and jazz up your home decor a bit, that's what you do!

Hyacinth
So today I potted up a gorgeous blue-purple hyacinth into a funky teapot.

The white teapot was $8 from KMart.

The Hyacinth sourced from Bunnings.

Hyacinth
A hyacinth in a teapot you ask?
Well, I say - why not!

Indoor Bulbs
It's a bit quirky, and once placed onto a French style tray, makes a super winter table centrepiece.
I also made a new table runner.
You can find out how to make a 'DIY TABLE RUNNER' HERE.

Hyacinth
It looks pretty. It smells divine.
And it's a reminder that Spring is coming!

Hyacinth
Once the Hyacinth blooms have finished flowering which will be in 2 or 3 weeks time,
I will plant them out into the garden border where they will rebloom next winter.
Hyacinths have a delightful scent and a stunning form.
If you grow them potted indoors they require a warm position with good light conditions.
Only keep the soil lightly moist as too much water makes them grow too tall!
It is best to place a wood orchid stake in the centre of the pot and make a thin wire loop to thread through the flower stems 3/4 of the way up, to pull stems together so as to avoid the weight of the flowers drooping over.
They do tend to grow towards the strongest light source, so turn the pot regularly to keep the plant in shape.
You just cannot beat the beauty and perfume of the Hyacinth.

Arty Painted By Sharpie Rocks...

Painted Rocks
'Arty Painted By Sharpie Rocks' is an easy decor 'pick me up' idea,
that is also a great school holiday project for the kids.
Super easy to create.
The design can be as simple or as complicated as you like.
You can use simple shapes or line art images.
For ideas - Google 'simple black and white line art images'.
For this project, I used three designs.
A simple twig, tiny daisy flowers and a more tricky - rose.

You will need some clean dry flat rocks.

Paint the rocks using a prime and paint spraypaint like Rustoleum white gloss.

Leave rocks to dry for at least one hour before the next step.

Once the painted rocks are dry, you can draw your design in pencil first onto your rock, and then go over the outlines in black sharpie pen.

Or you can freehand draw your design.
If rocks will be indoors leave as is...but to put outside you will need to put at least two coats of sealer or varnish over the paint and design.

Black and white craft
I have used mine inside on a side table as funky arty decor accessories.

Rather fun, don't you think?

Upstyled Stenciled Door Stopper...

Upstyle a doorstop!
I'm all about embellishing everything at the moment.
Embellishing things is a super way of making a purchased item YOU.
And this is what happened when I found this funky doorstop.
This was just twelve dollars at the K.Mart store.
I tell you what - K.Mart is the best!
It's affordable.
Which means you can change up the decor without spending a fortune.
(now that's totally my own personal opinion...so let's get back to the door stop).

It is kinda modern French style,
the fabric is Linen type.
It's plain.
Apart from the foil bottom.
What could I add to it?
A stencil pattern of course!

The stencil I used is a simple flower design by Semco.
I sourced this via Spotlight NZ Online.

I used fabric paint markers to print the stencil onto the doorstop.

I taped the stencil firmly in place.

I coloured in the outside edge first, then filled the petal with colour.

stencilling fabric
Then Coloured in the middle black.

I could have left it as is but added black shading.
The flower design now stands out more.

I'm really happy with my stencil design on my upstyled doorstop.
And of course, it's doing the job it was made for...
keeping the door open in the summer breeze.
